With Tiger Stadium and a beautiful Detroit skyline providing the aesthetics, the 16th Annual St. Patrick's Parade Corktown Races began with the 1/4 Mile Children's Run. Winners were Mike Luginbill, 10, of Troy and Lesly Hale, 9, of Detroit.

"May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
The rains fall soft upon your fields
And, until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand."-----a Gaelic Blessing

All of the above happened except for the rain part on the 16th running of the St. Patrick's Parade 4 Mile Run in delightfully sunny, city on the move, by the old ballpark, we love you Corktown: Detroit.

Close to 400 runners turned out for this running season opener sponsored by the Motor City Striders. Runners were led to the tape by Keith Hanson of Huntington Woods who won it going away in 20:22.

Kathy Rink of Bloomfield Hills won the women's race in 22:47.

The race was grand and the parade grander, as it everybody enjoyed themselves.

It was a wonderful day to be in Detroit. For those tuned into WJR 760, the Paul. W. Smith show had on their now-annual J. P. McCarthy Fundraiser, which culminated in a concert by Tony Bennet at the Fox.
